Readability checker
Measure how easy your content is to read. See the score, estimated grade level and sentences that may need simplifying.
Uses the Flesch Reading Ease and Flesch-Kincaid Grade formulas.
Readability analysis
Add at least 10 words for a useful estimate.
Sentences longer than 24 words are shown first. A long sentence is not automatically bad, but it deserves a second look.
- Long sentences will appear here.
Sentence length and word complexity.
The formulas estimate difficulty from the average number of words per sentence and syllables per word.
Paste a meaningful sample
Use several paragraphs. A headline or one sentence cannot produce a reliable reading-level estimate.
Review the longest sentences
Split a sentence when it contains several ideas that would be clearer on their own.
Keep necessary terms
Do not replace precise industry language simply to raise the score. Explain it when your audience may not know it.
Clear writing is more than short words.
A formula can flag likely friction, but it cannot judge accuracy, structure, tone or whether the content answers the reader's question.
What is a good readability score?
For general web content, a score of 60 or higher is usually comfortable. Technical and professional content may naturally score lower.
Should every sentence be short?
No. A mix of short and longer sentences creates rhythm. Review long sentences for clarity instead of cutting them by rule.
Does readability improve rankings?
There is no universal score required to rank. Readability matters because people need to understand and use the page.
